Abstract

Hellenism represents the fusion of Hellenic culture with Oriental culture. Historiography has not established a consensus regarding the geographical and chronological limits of Hellenism. Earlier Hellenism extended until the 1st century BC, while later Hellenism began in the early 1st cen tury BC and persisted until the beginning of the 6th century AD (Kalezić, 2005). Given the lengthy period during which ancient and early Christian epochs interweave, studying the convergence of these two eras, especially from a pedagogical perspective, posed both a significant challenge and demand. Hence, the objective of this work is to explore the Hellenistic pedagogical heritage. To achieve this overarching goal, specific tasks were outlined: 1) to investigate the meaning and origin of the term Hellenism; 2) to study and analyze the intersection between the ancient and early Christian periods; 3) to explore the catechism/theology school in Alexandria. The chapters of this work were structured in alignment with these tasks. The study employed theoretical analysis and the historical method. The paper presents the findings of the research. Subsequent studies could further examine the pedagogical elements derived from Hellenic culture in the regions that inherited it, such as the Roman Empire and Byzantium.
